Get The Look: 4th of July Edition

Hey there, beautiful, happy 4th of July! Quite possibly my favorite holiday, because (come on...) is there really anything better than a bunch of fun, food, and fireworks in the hottest season of the year?

If you're new around here, you should know that I'm totally in love with summer. Almost as much as I'm in love with the whole season leading up to Christmas. But even if you aren't new around here, you've probably caught on that I am quite a clothes hoarder. I prefer the term...fashionista.

Make no mistake, my days off are spent in sweatpants. But when there's a special occasion or I'm feeling particularly confident, I bust those closet doors wide open. And when I make this rare appearance dressed to the nines, I typically get a lot of compliments. Mainly on my fashion choices, not about me. In other words, I'm far more likely to hear Oh, those shoes are just darling! before I hear Bethany, you look so pretty. I can't blame anyone, really. I do have a closet full of shoes that are just darling. So you can imagine my shock last time I wore this outfit and heard a woman tell me, "Bethany, you always look so cute and effortless."

I almost dropped to the floor right there, trying my best to suppress my uncontrollable laughter in front of the poor girl who actually thought I looked like that when I rolled out of bed in the morning.

If she only knew.

But the more I thought about it... How could she know? How could she possibly know it took me an hour to curl my thick head of hair (which, by the way, is already naturally curly) just so the waves would all spring up the same direction? How could she know that I tried winged eyeliner six times before I gave up and drew a straight line across my lid? How could she know that my shorts had been altered three times, my shirt was tied up high so it wouldn't hide my shape, and that I had to wear a necklace so no one could see the missing button that I hadn't had the time to sew back on?

She couldn't know all that. Because I hadn't let any of it show.

I will gladly share my outfit inspirations with you guys. That's the whole reason my Get The Look segment exists on Taxis, Tots & Polka Dots. But I pray that you don't beat yourself up when your version doesn't look "as good" as mine. (I warn of you of this because that's exactly what I do when I try to copy another beauty blogger's outfit.) You didn't see all the imperfections I did when you saw my outfit, so chances are high that no one will see the imperfections you see in yours.

Well, that's all for today, beautiful. I'm signing off to eat hot dogs and run around with a great big sparkler. But I hope you have an amazing 4th of July full of food, fireworks, and fun in your super cute patriotic outfit.

Oh yeah. And don't worry if you don't think you look as cute as the girl by the grill who's flirting with your summertime hottie. She's probably sitting over there thinking she better make her move while she still can, because she doesn't think she looks as cute as you.
